In March 2018, Lindsey and Dan’s 5 year old daughter, Maren, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She was greatly inspired by the outpouring of love and support we received during such a difficult time and vowed to have her own organization someday. Maren, along with her mom, designed a port dress that opened at the shoulder to allow nurses to access her medical port without having to remove her shirt. She dreams of a day when every Brave Beauty has a port dress of their own. Siblings, such as Maren’s sister, Greta, also are invited to choose a special dress or top of their own to brighten their spirits as they struggle with adjusting to the massive changes in their homes.
The Brave Beauty Project began in May of 2018 by delivering our first group of dresses to Lutheran General Pediatric Oncology Clinic in Park Ridge, IL. Currently, we supply dresses for Brave Beauties and their siblings at Lutheran General and we hope to expand to surrounding hospitals as our volunteer base grows.
We also have begun offering Port Dresses to Brave Beauties via mail delivery in the United States at this time. In our first year, we have distributed over 600 dresses!
